Know Thy Self: The Power of Connecting to Your Authentic Self
Oct 24, 2024Introduction
Have you ever found yourself gazing out, wondering about the legacy you’ll leave behind? There’s a card in the Tarot deck that often comes to mind when I reflect on this question—the 10 of Pentacles. It depicts a woman surrounded by the fruits of her life’s work, a visual reminder of legacy and achievement. When I think about the life I want to live, I think of this card.
It might sound morbid, but my ultimate manifestation is to, on my final days (hopefully when I’m very old), look back and know that I lived a life true to my authentic self. I hope to be remembered as a loving mother, a devoted wife, and a spiritual coach who helped as many people as humanly possible find their way back to their own true selves. This is the essence of my life’s work—guiding others to reconnect with who they are at their core.
Know Thy Self
Socrates’ famous words, “Know thy self,” form the foundation of this journey. It’s such a simple phrase, yet its depth is profound. To know yourself is to truly understand your inner truth—your desires, strengths, vulnerabilities, and purpose. In today’s world, it’s so easy to get swept away by expectations, roles, and societal pressures. But I believe we are all beautifully unique. My vision of a fulfilling life may look very different from yours—and that’s the beauty of it. The key, however, is that each of us can only create our most fulfilling life when we are living in alignment with our authentic selves.
Socrates and the Power of Authenticity
When I think of living authentically, I am reminded of the story of Socrates. He lived his life devoted to his mission—searching for truth, challenging the norms, and questioning the world around him. At the end of his life, Socrates faced a choice: he could denounce everything he stood for and live, or he could stay true to his beliefs and face death. And in a moment that seems almost incomprehensible to many, he calmly drank the poison that sealed his fate.
While his choice might not be one you or I would make, it was authentic to him. For Socrates, this was the ultimate expression of living his truth, no matter the consequences. He was so aligned with his purpose that he accepted the outcome with grace and peace. His story reminds us that authenticity isn’t about making the "right" decisions in the eyes of others; it's about making the right decisions for ourselves. It’s about honouring our inner truth, even when the external world presents challenges.
Your Unique Journey
We all have a story to tell, a purpose to live, and work to do. But first, we must heal. It is through this process of healing that we reconnect with our authentic selves—the person we were always meant to be. When we strip away the layers of limiting beliefs, societal conditioning, and self-doubt, what remains is our truest essence.
This is why I do the work that I do. As a spiritual coach and healer, my mission is to guide people back to themselves. Whether through intuitive healing, reiki, or guided meditations, the journey always begins with reconnection—reconnection to your heart, your intuition, and your true purpose. And once you’re in that space of authenticity, the sky really is the limit.
Living a Life of Purpose
I believe that each of us has a legacy to leave behind, a life that only we can live. Whether your fulfillment comes from being a nurturing parent, building a career, or helping others on their journey, it’s all valid and important. My hope for you is that, like the woman in the 10 of Pentacles, you can one day look around and see the beautiful life you’ve created—not according to anyone else’s standards, but by your own.
So, let’s start by healing. Let’s peel back the layers and return to our authentic selves. As Socrates reminds us, knowing thyself is the first step in creating a life that feels true, purposeful, and deeply fulfilling.
