Feeling Lost? This Is Why You’re Disconnected from Yourself

Have you ever had that sinking feeling—like you’re wandering through life, doing all the “right” things, yet something feels off? You’re ticking all the boxes, following the path you were told would bring happiness, but instead of fulfilment, you feel lost, disconnected, and unsure of who you really are.

If this resonates, you’re not alone. So many of us have been conditioned away from our intuition, making it harder to hear our inner voice, trust our instincts, and feel deeply connected to ourselves.

Why Do We Feel Lost? The Truth About Disconnection

Feeling lost isn’t a personal failure—it’s a symptom of deep disconnection. From childhood, we’re subtly (and sometimes not so subtly) taught to prioritise external expectations over our internal wisdom.

🔹 We’re conditioned to seek validation.
From a young age, we’re praised for following instructions, getting good grades, and meeting societal milestones. We learn that approval comes from outside of us, rather than from within.

🔹 We’re told to ignore our intuition.
How many times have you heard: “Be realistic,” “That’s not how life works,” or “You’re too sensitive”? These messages slowly chip away at our trust in ourselves, making us second-guess our instincts.

🔹 We become disconnected from our emotions.
We live in a world that values logic over intuition, productivity over presence, and achievement over authenticity. Many of us were taught to suppress our emotions rather than listen to what they’re trying to tell us.

🔹 We attach our worth to external success.
Degrees, careers, relationships, financial stability—these things can be wonderful, but when our sense of self depends on them, we start losing touch with who we are beyond those roles.

This conditioning builds up over time, leaving us feeling like strangers to ourselves, uncertain of what we truly want, and searching for something more—even if we can’t quite name it.

How to Reconnect with Yourself and Your Intuition

The good news? You are not lost. You have simply been conditioned away from yourself—but you can find your way back. Here’s how:

1️⃣ Make Space for Stillness

Your intuition speaks in whispers, not shouts. When life is too noisy, it’s easy to drown it out. Create space for stillness—whether that’s through meditation, time in nature, or simply sitting in silence without distractions.

💡 Try This: Spend 5-10 minutes a day in complete stillness. Ask yourself: “What do I need to know today?” Then listen.

2️⃣ Pay Attention to What Feels Expansive vs. Draining

Your body is always communicating with you. Notice how different situations, people, and decisions make you feel. If something lights you up, it’s a sign you’re in alignment. If something feels heavy or constricting, it may be out of sync with your true path.

💡 Try This: Reflect on where you feel the most alive—even in small moments. Those are breadcrumbs leading you back to yourself.

3️⃣ Let Go of the “Shoulds”

So many of our choices are shaped by what we think we should do rather than what actually feels right. Challenge these beliefs and start tuning into what you want.

💡 Try This: Write down five things you’re currently doing out of obligation. Ask yourself: “If no one else’s opinion mattered, would I still choose this?”

4️⃣ Reconnect with Your Inner Child

The most authentic version of you still exists—it’s the version that was free before the world told you who to be. Reconnecting with your inner child can help you remember what truly brings you joy.

💡 Try This: What did you love doing as a child before you worried about being “good” at it? Start doing more of that.

5️⃣ Trust Yourself Again

Rebuilding trust in yourself takes time, but every time you honour your intuition, you strengthen that connection. The more you listen, the louder it becomes.

💡 Try This: The next time you feel drawn to something without logical explanation, follow that nudge. See where it leads.
